Champagne Or Rhine Wine Cup
What You Need:
  • Approximately 1 cup of fruits of the season: peeled orange and/or grapefruit sections, lemon slices, hulled strawberries, peach slices, cucumber peel
  • 4 maraschino cherries
  • 4 ounces brandy
  • 4 ounces Benedictine
  • 4 ounces maraschino liqueur
  • 12 to 16 ice cubes or a block of ice
  • 1 bottle cold champagne or cold Rhine wine
  • 6 ounces cold Perrier water or club soda
  • A 1˝-to 2-quart pitcher or punch bowl
  • 4 wine glasses or punch cups, chilled

  • How To Cook:
    1. The most crucial point in making this-and the following two-refreshing summer drinks is to be sure that the Pitcher or bowl, glasses, wine, Perrier or club soda, and fruit are all thoroughly chilled.

    2. Place the fruits of your choice in the pitcher first, then add the cherries and the brandy, Benedictine and maraschino liqueur.

    3. Place the pitcher or bowl in the refrigerator (or freezer) for at least 1 hour(˝ hour if you use the freezer).

    4. Remove and fill with ice cubes. A solid block of ice that fits the pitcher or bowl is even better; it will be more attractive, and will not dilute the drink by melting too quickly.

    5. Just before serving, pour in the champagne or Rhine wine and the sparkling water. Stir briefly with a glass stirring rod or a bar spoon and serve in chilled wine glasses or punch cups.
