Claret Cup
What You Need:
  • Approximately 1 cup of fruits of the season: peeled orange and/or grapefruit sections, lemon slices, hulled strawberries, peach slices, cucumber peel
  • 4 ounces blackberry brandy
  • 4 ounces maraschino liqueur
  • 4 ounces curacao
  • 12 to 16 ice cubes or a block of ice
  • 1 bottle claret (Bordeaux)
  • 6 ounces cold Perrier water or club soda
  • A 1˝-to 2-quart pitcher or punch bowl
  • 4 wine glasses or punch cups, chilled

  • How To Cook:
    1. Place the fruits of your choice in the pitcher or bowl first, then add the blackberry brandy, maraschino liqueur and curacao.

    2. Place the vessel in the refrigerator (or freezer) for at least 1 hour (˝ hour if you use the freezer).

    3. Remove and fill with ice cubes. A solid block of ice cut to fit the pitcher or bowl is even better, since it will not melt as quickly and dilute the drink.

    4. Pour in the claret and sparkling water, stir briefly, and serve in chilled wine glasses or punch cups.
