Easter Spice Buns
What You Need:
  • 3 cups flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1½ cups brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 pound raisins
  • ¼ pound mixed dried fruit
  • ¼ teaspoon molasses
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

  • How To Cook:
    1. Preheat oven to 325°F.

    2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and baking soda.

    3. In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil.

    4. Add sugar, stirring until dissolved.

    5. Lower heat; add margarine, raisins, mixed fruit, molasses, salt, and spices.

    6. Let simmer for 10 minutes.

    7. Remove from heat and let cool.

    8. Add cooled liquid to flour mixture. Stir and blend, but do not over mix.

    9. To glaze buns before baking, combine water and sugar and brush mixture onto buns.

    10. Pour batter into a 5 inch by 9 inch greased loaf pan.

    11. Bake for 1 to 1½ hours.
