Pine Nut Crescents
(Misofengara Me Koukounaria)
What You Need:
  • 2 sticks (½ pound) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts
  • 3 tablespoons honey

    How To Cook:
    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

    2. In a bowl beat together butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in egg yolks, one at a time.

    3. Add orange peel and vanilla extract. Stir in flour and blend well.

    4. Measure about 1 tablespoon of dough for each cookie and roll between lightly floured palms into ropes about 2½ inches long.

    5. Place cookies 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Shape each into a crescent.

    6. Press pine nuts firmly into cookies to anchor. Heat honey over low heat until it liquefies and brush it liberally over cookies.

    7. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden. Cool cookies on a rack. Store in airtight container.
