Nanaimo Bars
What You Need:
FIRST PART
  • 4 oz butter
  • 1½ oz caster sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 6 oz graham wafers
  • 2¼ oz coconut
  • 2 oz chopped nuts

    SECOND PART
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder
  • 3 tablespoons hot water
  • 2 oz butter
  • 9 oz icing sugar

    THIRD PART
  • 2 oz plain chocolate
  • 1 oz icing sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • How To Cook:
    1. Place the butter, sugar and cocoa in the top of a double boiler.

    2. Stir until blended.

    3. Add the egg and vanilla and cook for 1 minute.

    4. Remove from the heat.

    5. Make the wafers into crumbs.

    6. Add these with the coconut and walnuts. It is quite a stiff mixture.

    7. Pat into a greased 9- by 5- inch pan and place in the refrigerator for ½ hour.

    8. Cook the second part together.

    9. Spread over the first part and return to the refrigerator for a further ½ hour.

    10. Melt the chocolate and butter.

    11. Add the icing sugar and spread over the top of the second layer.

    12. Let it stand until firm, and then cut into bars.
