Butterscotch Brownies
What You Need:
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ˝ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ˝ teaspoon salt
  • ˝ cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • How To Cook:
    1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Line an 8-inch-square baking pan with lightly buttered wax paper. Over low heat, melt the 4 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan and add the brown sugar. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves, then pour the mixture into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Cool until tepid.

    2. Beat in the egg and vanilla, and when they are thoroughly incorporated beat in the flour, baking powder and salt, first sifted together. Gently fold in the chopped walnuts and pour the batter into the baking pan.

    3. Bake in the center of the oven for about 25 minutes until the cake is firm to the touch and a small knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes, then cut it into 2-inch squares.
