What You Need:            (To Make: 10 to 12 dozen biscuits)

  • 3 sticks (¾ pound) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup corn oil
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 10 to 12 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • ½ cup sesame seeds

  • How To Cook:
    1. Preheat oven to 350°.

    2. Cream butter and corn oil until light and fluffy. Gradually add sugar and vanilla extract. Beat in eggs one at a time and continue mixing.

    3. Dissolve baking soda in warm milk and add to mixture. Mix 1 cup flour with baking powder and, add to batter. Continue adding flour until you have soft dough.

    4. Divide dough into six parts. Pat into narrow loaves about 1 inch high and 12 inches long. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Score loaves into ½-inch slices.

    5. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until lightly brown. Remove from oven and slice through while hot.

    6. Turn slices on their sides and return to oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on racks and store in airtight containers.
