Polish sausage and ham are known all over the world. Kielbasa is a spicy and garlicky sausage that should be steamed before eating. If you prick the skin with a fork before cooking, it will not burst.

1½ pounds garlic-flavored ring sausage
1½ cups sliced onions
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 can (10¾ ounces) condensed beef broth
1 cup beer
1 tablespoon vinegar
¼ teaspoon pepper
4 medium potatoes (about 1 pound), cut in half
3 medium carrots (about ½ pound), cut in 2-inch pieces
1 to 2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

1. Prick sausage with a fork; set aside.
|
2. Cook onions in butter in a large saucepan until tender; stir in broth, beer, vinegar and pepper.
|
3. Add sausage, potatoes and carrots; cover and cook over low heat 35 minutes, or until done, stirring occasionally.
|
4. Stir flour and water together to make a paste; stir into broth and cook to desired thickness.
|
5. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
|
