What You Need:            (Serving Size: 6)

  • 1 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • teaspoon salt (omit for sweet fritter)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for fruit fritters only)
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon shortening, melted
  • 1 cups chopped or ground fish or ham OR 2 cups fruits or vegetables, chopped or crushed

  • How To Cook:
    1. Combine ingredients in the order given. Stir only enough to dampen batter. Add meat, vegetables or fruit to batter last.

    2. Heat oil in deep skillet to 375F degrees.

    3. Drop a tablespoon at a time into hot oil.

    4. Cook 1 fritter first to test.

    5. Fry a few fritters at a time, keeping heat constant, for about 3 to 5 minutes, until light, crispy and golden.

    6. Drain on absorbent paper.

    TIP:
        If fruit is very tart, sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons sugar over fruit before combining it with batter.
