| 1. Slice bananas and fry them lightly in butter.

| 2. Place them in a fireproof dish and cover them with either (a) a syrup made with ½ cup sugar and ¼ cup water, to which are added 2 beaten egg yolks flavored with vanilla, or (b) an ordinary custard made with either eggs or custard powder.

| 3. Now make a stiff meringue of egg whites and fine sugar, and pour it over the custard. 
 
 | 
| 4. Bake for about 15 minutes in a moderate oven (350°F). 
 
 | 
| 5. Decorate with small pieces of crystallized or fresh fruit.
