  • 8 thin slices of stale bread (crusts removed)
  • 4 slices of ham (about ½ oz each)
  • 4 slices (about ½ oz each) of Gouda or Edam cheese
  • Butter, margarine or dripping for frying

  • How To Cook:
    1. The bread, cheese and ham should be cut to the same size.

    2. Put a slice of cheese and a slice of ham between each pair of bread slices, spread the sandwiches on the outside with fat, and fry them golden-brown and crisp.

    3. They may be served as a savoury at lunch or supper, or as an entree, after the first course of a main meal.
