Oven - Baked Halva
What You Need:
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks (½ pound) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • One 14-ounce box uncooked regular farina
  • 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
  • 1¼ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or slivered almonds

    SYRUP
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2½ cups water
  • 1½ tablespoons fresh lemon juice

  • How To Cook:
    1. Preheat oven to 325°F.

    2. Beat eggs in a medium-sized mixing bowl.

    3. Gradually add sugar, butter, milk, vanilla extract, and dry ingredients and mix well. Add nuts.

    4. Pour into a greased 10 by 14 by 2-inch baking pan. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until cake tester comes out clean.

    IN THE MEANTIME, PREPARE SYRUP:
    1. Combine sugar, water, and lemon juice, bring to a boil, and simmer for 15 minutes.

    2. Pour hot syrup over hot halva. Cut in squares.

    To Make: 24 squares
